What is The Bookmark Project?

The Bookmark Project is a student-led nonprofit initiative that collects and donates books to children in hospitals, therapy centers, and underserved communities in the U.S. and abroad.

Who founded it?

Sanvi Pandey and Sumedha Rao, two high school seniors from Palatine, IL, who started it in 2021 inspired by their own experience with isolation during COVID-19.

Where do the books go?

Books go to hospitals, pediatric therapy centers, libraries, schools, and underserved communities — including partner communities in India and Uganda.

What kinds of books do you accept?

We accept new and gently used children's and young adult books in good condition.

How can I get involved?

You can volunteer at a book packing event, start a book drive, donate books or funds, or reach out about a partnership — see our Volunteer and Donate pages.

How do I drop off book donations?
